Buried Treasure and Free Pearls

It’s been a hectic few days here at The Stampin’ Schach.  The Twins are showing four days, beginning yesterday through Sunday and Brady the Boy has two concerts, Friday and Sunday.  Yikes!  What’s a mother to do! I guess share a little Buried Treasure!

“Buried Treasure” is a weekly Friday feature here at The Stampin’ Schach. What are “Buried Treasures”? They are cards from my archives which are deserving of a revisit. Whether it’s a layout, a technique, or maybe just an underused stamp set, these cards are like a pirate’s booty of ideas worth a second look. Today’s card first appeared on The Stampin’ Schach on November 26,  2009.  Click HERE  to see the original post with all of the delicious details!

Layout: This card has a layout that is perfect for showcasing Stampin’ Up!’s variety of larger image stamp sets.  For the upcoming holiday season, how about A Christmas Carol, Frostwood Lodge, Tidings of Joy,  or Come to Bethlehem.  You can even make a collage of ornaments in the image area.  Non-holiday choices could include: Countryside, In Wilderness, Farm Life, Nature’s Silhouettes, Zoo Review.  Or fill the space with flowers and leaves.  Paisley Petals, Creative Elements, Falling Leaves and French Foliage would be viable choices. Of course for winter,  you just can’t beat snowflakes or snowmen!

Technique:  I can never pass up the opportunity to use Stampin’ Up!’s Textured Impressions Embossing Folders.  Think how yummy texture would look behind the image.  And of course,  Designer Series Paper is always an option.  This is a perfect opportunity to create your own background paper, and employ techniques such as faux silk or embedded embossing. This is also a perfect layout to highlight the emboss resist technique for the image.
Embellishments:  If I were making this card today, I would change the border and add pearls. Depending on what image I was using,  I might add satin ribbon and a fabulous bow.

Free Pearls…Anyone?

Remember, your comments are important to me, and I do read each and every one of them.  So please, won’t you leave me a comment and let me know what you think about today’s Buried Treasure.  From all comments left on this post and Saturday’s post, I will randomly select one lucky person to receive free pearls.  With the holiday season approaching, I don’t want you to be without my favorite embellishment!

Of course, if you have a question about the cards that I create, or the techniques that I use, please EMAIL me.  Until next time…

  6. A beautiful card!! Wish I didn’t have so many other cards to make before I can start on my Christmas cards! All the Christmas cards you’ve been showing for a while now puts me in the mood to make them… but I’ll have to put them off a while longer.

  7. I love the elegance of the card and of course one of my favorite colors. I agree, the pearls, along with ribbon and some embossing would definately update the card. Good Luck to the twins this week-end!

  8. I like this card, and it’s a good reminder for me to get this set out and USE IT! It would be good to mass-produce since it doesn’t have any coloring or expensive embellishments!

    Joan!!!

  15. I didn’t remember this little jewel. It is simply gorgeous but I definitely think one of your bows would be a wonderful addition. Maybe some pearls on a scalloped border instead?

So, where are the twins showing and where are Brady’s concerts? Inquiring minds want to know as well as I am just plain nosey!

Have a wonderful weekend with all the adventures to take.

  18. Thanks for the revisit to the buried treasure & all the ideas for an update. Love the chance to win some pearls. I have been wanting to get some & have not purchased any yet. Do not fret though, I have a bunch of colored pearls & rhinestones, just no pearls that are actually pearl colored.

  19. It’s simple and classic and just beautiful. Thanks for digging this one up.

  20. Your ‘kids’ sure are keeping you busy this weekend. Good luck to Brady and the Twins.

Today’s buried treasure is a classic beauty. Of course you would add pearls to the re-do!

I know what you mean about busy.. this is my busy time of the year (Fall & spring) will off to Mexico for audits at one of our facilities. Not really time to enjoy the sites either!). Hugs.

  25. Isn’t fun to look back at cards made in the past. I always hope that I become a better designer and stamper each year. Trends, styles and new products such as pearls can sure make a difference.

  26. LOOOVE buried treasure days!! It makes me think of what I have been “neglecting”, and that maybe I should bring out some of my old sets again for some revamped work!! Love this card! And would LOOOOVE some pearls! I think SU has the BEST pearls EVER! Those teeny, tiny, baby ones are just the CUTEST!! I’d like a whole sheet of those offered in the catty!! :O)

  27. I love the Buried Treasure idea! The card is beautiful!

  28. I really like the simplicity of this card. That’s something I look for when I’m thinking about doing my Christmas cards. It’s such a busy time of the year anyway, that’s the time I need simple, yet elegant and that’s what this card is. Thanks for resharing.

  29. I adore this card but, after reading what you’d change if you did it today, I’d love to see your new re-visited versions. And, of course, I’d love to win some pearls!

  30. I love the buried treasured days -it just shows how evolved papercrafting has come in a few short years.

  31. Oh Ann, what a beauty but I have to say without reading, I first looked at the card and could not believe it did not have your usual “bling” pearls on it….then I read down and voila….you are giving away some!! How funny is that? I have trouble with this set, so I am glad to see a way to make it pretty..love the layering.

  32. Beautiful card in its simplicity. Love that stamp. Thanks so much for pearls offer.

  33. It’s a really lovely card, Ann! Hope puppies do well in their shows but “Brody the boy” will love having you come to his concert, too.

  34. Lovely card, elegant. i don’t think it needs any changes. Enjoy the weekend activities. My daughter had marching band exhibition performance this week, lots of fun!

  35. Great buried treasure. YOu are so right in saying it can be used with so many different stamps. It is a great layout. Thanks for bringing it back.

  40. I love this card…the image, the layout and the sentiment all work together. I wouldn’t change a thing! Enjoy your busy weekend….

  41. I just love your “Buried Treasure”.
It is amazing on how many new SU products we use now to embellish our cards. I know this one would have had Pearls on it!
Wishing the Twins a great time. Bring home the ribbons!!!!
Enjoy Brady’s concert. I wish all of you… the best of times together.

  42. I love the simplicity. This would be an nice to duplicate if you had lots to do!!

  43. Love this simple yet elegant card and I can see where just adding a few little details would take it to a whole new level! Very pretty! I love seeing your buried treasures! Good luck to Brady and the twins this weekend!

  44. Great ‘buried treasure’!! Great colir combo.

  45. So simple but so beautiful I love it

  46. Good Morning Ann! This image is so lovely on its own but, you are correct, it would be amazing with a few minor updates! I do imagine it with ribbon and a beautiful bow, def. some pearls, and an embossing folder would add some delightful texture…. perhaps the new Snow Burst? Or is that too much? Maybe a touch of Petals a Plenty?

  47. Another ‘buried’ beauty! And so my style. I love it!
