The return of Brady the Boy to college is a reminder to me that my favorite time of the year…Fall…is quickly approaching! As I was searching through the archives, looking at fall cards from past years, I encountered this card and was instantly struck by the layout. The elongated panels are perfect for some of the newly released stamp sets. With this in mind, I deemed it a perfect candidate for my Buried Treasures series…those cards of the past worthy of a second look. This card originally appeared on The Stampin’ Schach back in November, 2009. Click HERE for the original post.
Think of the updating possibilities!
Layout Options: This layout is perfect for stamp sets that have elongated images. The following sets come to my mind: the decorations from Merry and Type, the tall snowman from Snow Much Fun, the giraffe from Zoo Review, the tall pine from Lovely As a Tree, and a multitude of floral sets. From the Holiday Mini, the skeleton from Piece of Poison, leaves from Gently Falling, and stalks of wheat from Always Thankful are possible choices. And if you make a horizontal card, why not the sentiments from Hand-Penned Holidays and Festive and Fun? There are Designer Series Paper options galore, dependent upon the stamp set you select.
Embellishment Updates: I would stick with the textured panel. Imagine the new Houndstooth Textured Impressions Embossing Folder on a masculine card. Or the yummy Snow Burst folder, embellishing the centers with the teeniest of the Basic Pearls or droplets of Dazzling Details! With a holiday card, imagine a snippet of the new Quilted Satin Ribbons or the Velvet Ribbon, all from the Holiday Mini.
Techniques: Curl the corners of the central image and distress the edges, too! How beautiful would it be to use the Faux Silk technique on the back panel! Emboss Resist the image! Stamp your image and zip the strip through the Big Shot with the Square Lattice folder. Just let your imagination soar!
Brody
Several of you emailed me, asking for an update on Brody the Boxer, who had a tumor removed from his leg Wednesday. Brody had to stay an extra day at the vet’s because of the incision. The location of the incision on his inner right hind leg, and its size (3″), made it difficult to stitch. After the surgery, there were some complications. Hence, the extra day.
I placed an old clean sheet on the couch, and he has spent most of his time dozing. He is eating well and is in good spirits. We have been outside several times, and that is a good sign. He is taking three types of meds, including drugs to control pain. He just looks like he has been run through the wringer, but rest assured that I am catering to his every need.
He did search for Muffy a little, but sleep won over. Muffy is in Muncie, Indiana at a dog show. Until Wednesday, she and Brody had only been away from each other for two days since their birth. Poor puppies!
I hope you enjoyed this card from my past. And I hope that you take the time to examine your card making past to see what Buried Treasures you have, just waiting for you to work your updating magic. As always, your comments are important to me, so take a few minutes to let me know what you think about today’s layout…or even to just say “Hi!” And if you ever have any questions about the cards that I make or the techniques that I use, I am only an email away. Until next time…
Oh my goodness, Ann – I had no idea Brody had to go to the vet for surgery. 🙁 I hope he is continuing to recover nicely and that Muffy is doing well. It is so stressful when our companions are not feeling well but Brody’s got the best in you to cater to his every need. Sending lots of good thoughts your way!
Hope Brady’s return to college goes well!!!
Oh poor Brody! How did I miss this Ann! My thoughts are with you and I hope he recovers soon. Poor pup!
Hugs,
Lesley
One of my favorite cards! I just so love the way you color in those leaves. Gorgeous!!! I’m so sorry to hear about Brody’s surgery. I hope he is well soon and Muffy get a blue ribbon!!! Hugs,
Awww, Ann!! Poor Brody! Emmitt and Ozzy send doggie-hugs to him. Your buried treasure card is fabulous!!! I love the design but WAIT, it doesn’t seem complete without some of your signature pearls. Great tips you shared, as always! Hugs! 🙂
oh no… I send to Brody get well wishes!!! reading about Brody made me give my own doggie an extra hug this morning. I hope he is up and about but not too soon, so he can heal. Please be sure to keep us updated on his condition. Praying all goes well…..Lovely fall card, reminds me that cooler days will be coming soon.
Aw, poor puppy boy! Bless his sweet little heart. THanks for the update, Ann. Hope his recovery goes smoothly!
Ahhh…so sorry to hear about Brody! I’ve been very neglectful lately in checking in on my fav blogs so had no clue he was going in for surgery. I’m happy to hear he is doing well and on his way to recovery!
Gorgeous buried treasure by the way!….LOVE that set! {SMILES}
Love this layout and what a beautiful card! I love looking back through your buried treasures, there is so much there to inspire me! And fall cards are one of my very favorites to make!
Poor sweet Brody, he looks so cute napping on the sofa, I hope he is feeling better very soon and that everything turns out just fine with the biopsy. I’m sure he is loving all the extra attention from mom but also missing his sister. Sending lots of hugs for him and good luck to Muffy at her shows this weekend!
I haven’t been making cards all that long, but Fall cards seem to be my favorite cards to make. I love this buried treasure. Thanks so much for bringing it out today!
Great layout, Ann! You just gave me some inspiration for my Thanksgiving cards. I know I can always count on you for a beauty!
Glad that your baby is doing better.

Such a great fall card! Love the falling leaves. Think you could easily incorporate some of the new leaf sets for a fun updated card. So glad to hear that Brody is home & recovering. Looks like the poor guy is all tuckered out. I bet he’ll be happy to see Muffy when she returns. Probably best that she is away, so he can rest up & heal. Hope all continues to go well with his recovery. Bet he feels better already being home with is family.
Oh poor Brody. I hope he’s feeling better soon and heals up nicely.
Very pretty card.
Sorry Brody is laid-up. Hope Brody heals quickly.
My boxer boy, Trevor, had knee surgery on Wed to repair a torn cruciate lig. His incision, same leg as Brody’s, is almost the whole length of his leg, groin to ankle. Having to feed him rice and boiled skinless chicken. Glad we had some on hand. I was told he’ll be able to eat his regular food. Yeah right. Not likely after surgery,on fentanyl patch , anti-bios and anti-inflam. I’m sure you’ve had your experiences with your boxers and their sensative tummies. I think boxers get the booby prize for the most sensative tummy of all breeds.
Big hugs for you and Brody. I think he is on the mend but still a little TLC never hurts! I am sure the meds are making him drowsy just like humans. It is probably good that he can rest without Muffy there wanting to play. Looking forward to Muffy’s adventures in Hoosier Land.
Now for that card! Just fantastic! I think that might even be my ultrafavorite right now. Such a rich delightful card. Well done! I don’t know if it could be any better with any changes with new stuff!

This card is definitely a treasure. The layout, colors, and leaves are gorgeous together.
I’m sure you are catering to Brody’s every need/wish. He looks comfy resting on the couch. He’ll certainly feel even better once Muffy is back home.
i L~O~V~E~ this card!! and i actually have the stamp set so i’m gonna have this card a go =)
so sorry to hear about your pup’s visit =( but great to hear he is dealing with it or actually that you are dealing with him =) we recently had a visit with our dog to the vet but we weren’t so lucky to bring her home …
Bless Brody’s little puppy heart! I hope he is up and around, shaking his boxer butt soon.
Ooohhh, your card is beautiful, the leaves look so real. I love fall too, though we don’t get a fall here in Florida. We lived in north Georgia for a couple of years, oh, I loved the fall, the crisp cool air, the changing of the leaves, and apples everywhere!
Poor, poor Brody! So glad he is eating and going out, though I know he is missing his Muffy 🙁 He looks so sad, I just want to give him a big ‘ol hug!
This card is so beautiful. Autumn is very lovely, but it will be Nov. before we have much of it here. Brody looks so wrung out. I know you are glad to have him home, and looking forward to him feeling better soon. Keep us posted.
ohmygosh! poor brody…i must have missed this. is the tumour ok? you must be just sick over this. muffy must be sooooo worried! they just KNOW when each other is not well…it is horrible to watch. love to your puppy xox as for your card…THIS is one of my very favorite and I remember exactly when I saw it because I LOVED the leaves and the technique you used to create them. The stamp was beautiful but moreso was your amazing gift to create them to resemble fall, without a glitch! Everything about this card, then and again now, speaks Professional Stamping Ann! xox
This is such a great layout Ann! I think I’ll use it soon!
Sending speedy recovery wishes to Brody the dog.
Brody looks like he is king of his domain! How did he get in that last position? Doesn’t look comfortable to me but he must be really limber! Glad he is home and resting comfortably.
Thanks for the card ideas!
Best Wishes to Brody and he’s in very good hands so he’ll recover quickly. Hope Muffy wins lots of ribbons. The card is so so pretty!
Best Wishes to everyone.
What a gorgeous card, Ann. I will definitely have to case this! Poor Brody looks like he has been through the ringer! I’m sure the meds are making him sleepy, which is probably a good thing. And with Muffy away, he can really rest. I hope Brody has a quick recovery!
beautiful card & thank you for the extra tips; you always go the extra mile with suggestions; poor pooch…looks like he’s in distress [smiling!]I’m sure, with all the TLC, he’ll be up & at it in no time! Thanks for his update.
So glad to see Brody home. Wish I could come by to help pamper him. Keeping him and you in my prayers.
I love that layout and card. I need another card for my upcoming stack class so I think I will work with that layout! Thanks for all the ideas.
Brody looks so cute there without a care in the world. Hope he is feeling better and that his incision is healing nicely. Muffy will be home soon and they will be running around as if nothing at all happened.
Hugs to Brody!
Sorry your baby boy is under the weather, but sounds like he is responding well to all the TLC he’s receiving.
Love this layout! I’m ready for fall! It’s been a long, hot summer here in NC.
I got my Snow Much Fun set yesterday, and I can’t wait to start playing!
Oh my gosh this card is just gorgeous! I absolutely love the technique on the leaves. I’ll have to give it a try.
You are truly in your element with this gorgeous card! How refreshing to think of fall during this long hot summer. My struggle always seems to be with layouts and layering. I must keep this card in mind! Thanks for the Brody update.
Ann I LOVE that card! I also LOVE all your ideas!!! How do you do that???? I want to copy the list and make some for a sketch class! Wouldn’t that be fun to show people how different a card would be using just different stamps and ‘feel’..(vintage, CAS, etc.) YOU so inspire me!
Awww poor Brody, but he sure looks cozy.. AND the colors in that sheet with Brody on top also inspire a COLOR theme… right???
Hope he better soon and Muffy does well at the show.
Hugs
A real beauty from the past. Love all the good suggestions you give for updating this layout.
Hope Brady gets to feeling better quickly.
I really like it too. I need to take a walk thru your archives too. It’s always fun to see how your style changes over the years. I’m happy to see Brody home. It probably is better that Muffy is away so he can rest and heal and be pampered as a singleton for a while. I’d hate to see him pop stitches trying to play with her too soon. Hopefully he will be in really good shape by the time she returns. A 3″ incision! Wow! Poor guy!
I really like today’s layout. It was from the past for sure…no pearls to be found at all….hehe!
Brody looks adorable all sacked out. Poor baby, I send well wishes his way along with the “Girls” in hope that he will heal quickly and well!
Maybe it is better Muffy is not there. It would make him want to play more. This way he can relax and get better.
