The Perfect Adventure with The Paper Players

Happy Mother’s Day! It’s time for The Paper Players monthly color challenge. And to get you inspired to begin creating those masculine cards which you may need for graduation and Father’s Day, we have the following trio of colors:

Of course, we want you to feel free to add a neutral of your choice.  You don’t have these exact colors?  Substitute! At The Paper Players we want you to have fun!  And do you want to know a little secret?  I mistakenly grabbed Marina Mist instead of Not Quite Navy ink.  I didn’t catch the mistake until after the background was completed.  Duh! So…I substituted Marina Mist! After posting several cards that were not distressed, I pulled out all the stops in creating this masculine nautical card.  Enjoy “The Perfect Adventure with The Paper Players”!

The Stampin’ Schach Stampin’ Tips:
  • Random Stamping! Creating your own background is always an option.  I  inked the “Compass” from The Open Sea stamp set in Cherry Cobbler, the “Anchor” with Marina Mist, and the “Ship” with Early Espresso, and randomly stamped onto Naturals Ivory card stock.  It was then zipped through the Big Shot with the Square Lattice Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.
  • A Distressing Situation! To create the distressed look, I used the Seven Sided Tool from the Cutter Kit on most of the edges.  They were then distressed using Soft Suede ink and a Sponge Dauber.  Finally, everything was given a liberal spritzing using the Color Spritzer Tool and a Soft Suede Stampin’ Write Marker.
  •
  • Finishing Touches! Hemp Twine adds a decidedly masculine and nautical touch.  Even a bow works on a masculine card when popped up through an Antique Brass Jumbo Eyelet.  The Spiral Border Punch, used on the edge of the “Ship’s Manifest”, makes it appear as if it was just ripped from the log book.
  • The Perfect Adventure! The sentiment “Everyday is the perfect adventure” from the On the Grow stamp set was selectively inked with an Early Espresso Stampin’ Write Marker.  “The perfect adventure” was stamped onto Naturals Ivory card stock and then punched out with the Word Window Punch.  A single Basic Pearl accents one end, and fits with the nautical theme.

I hope you enjoyed today’s primitive masculine card! Let me know what you think by leaving me a comment.  And remember, I always love to share the “how-to’s” with you.  So if you ever have a question about the cards that I create or the techniques that I use, I am only an email away.  Now, I am off to enjoy a wonderful day with the Twins.  And since Brady is preparing for finals, I will celebrate Mother’s Day with him next weekend. Until next time…

I can tell you “pulled out all the stops.” All the elements came together so well – the twine, the embossing, distressing, the ship’s log paper, and the ship and compass. This is definitely one of the best. Congratulations!

  16. Woohoo Ann – welcome to my world of mistakes! Isn’t it fabulous that we are stampers and no one ever has to know that we dropped the stamp on a piece of paper unless you pull off the layer, and who’se going to do that! I love this card with the MM and (oops that reminds me of chocolate – oh and MMs are on sale at Costco this month) This may turn into my all time favorite masculine set. I’ve always loved the tall ship and other nautical stamps from the past – but this set! This is a wonderful card!

Hope you are having a fabulous mother’s day. And I never, ever do this on someone else’s blog – but you have to stop by and take a look at what my husband just finished!

Thanks for blessing my day and for allowing me to babble on forever.

  17. You even make guy cards outstanding. I think your little ink mistake paid off; I like the how the lighter blue stands out.

  18. I don’t know how you constantly come up with absolutely stunning cards, Ann. This one is a fabulous masculine card. I have so much trouble with these. I guess I’m too frilly and girly. Have a Happy Mother’s Day with the twins. Did they get Mommy a present????

  36. Of all the crazy things, I do not yet have the spiral punch, but have admired it many times. I best get that punch on my “must have” list! This is an amazing card and that punch really sets it off. As for the Marina Mist ink, well I can certainly understand how that happens! I feel much better at my own errors over time – usually because I try to match colors but am color blind. Thank heaven for my color coach!

  37. What a great masculine card, Ann! Love the detail and finishing touches you added. Hope you have a wonderful Mother’s Day!
