A few day’s ago, I shared one of my creative goals for this year: Design more masculine cards. Today I am going to share a second of my goals with you: Create more quick and easy cards.
One of the questions that I am often asked is, “How long does it take you to create a card?” Many of my cards do take a lengthy amount of time, but in all honesty, the majority of my time is taken up in the design process. I think and think and think…and then something usually “clicks” and I have an “ah-ha” moment. However, I have always admired those people who can whip out fabulous cards in little or no time. So, as I said, one of my goals is to try and create a few cards each month that can be created in an hour or less. Today’s card meets that criteria. Designed around the Sew Suite collection, this all-occasion card features the Sweet Stitches Rub-Ons!
The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips:
- Rub-ons! The “Pattern Girls” in the Sweet Stitches Rub-On collection are perfect for watercoloring. I rubbed this sweet little girl onto Very Vanilla card stock, and then watercolored her with Blender Pens and the following inks: Pretty in Pink, Blush Blossom, Daffodil Delight, and Tempting Turquoise. It’s so easy!
- Coordination! Like all of Stampin’ Up!’s Designer Series Paper, coordination is the key. Using the coordinated patterns and card stocks saves time…and looks oh, “sew suite”!
- Paper work! Make the Designer Paper work for you! Notice how the stitching and needle parts of the Sweet Stitches pattern paper become an integral part of the card’s design.
- Glitz and Glam: Even quick and easy cards deserve a little bling! A coordinating Sweet Stitches Fabric Designer Brad adds interest and texture. Its placement anchors the sentiment and image. Three miniature Basic Pearls adorn the neckline of the dress and each of the shoes.
Yes…it was hard for me not to pull out the Color Spritzer Tool, Sponge Daubers, and Seven Sided Tool. I was out of my comfort zone for sure. But it was also fun to finish a card while watching Oprah! I love that you’re going to be showcasing some ‘quick and easy’ cards. If it’s too tough, though, for you to keep it simple, maybe you could show two versions–one simple and one with more glam.

Oh I do love what you have done with this card. It is lovely. I hope that you found making a simpler card was quicker for you to deisn. As for me, making the simple cards that I make take me a lot of time during the design process becuase I do what you do. I re-think what I’ve done. What can I do to make it look better and that leads me to trying different things. In the end putting my cards together only take about 10 minutes but getting it right in my head and on paper can some times take me hours. If I made cards like yours it would take me days. LOL. I really love the details that you used on this card Ann.

Ah, Darlene-Joy took the words right out of my mouth, well off the keyboard, or whatever!!!! My mom would have loved this card as she loved to sew all my dresses when I was little. Change the hair color to dark auburn and make the dress green, it could have been me! Anyway, this is such a fun card! I hadn’t noticed the little pearls, silly me, should have known! Such a cute card and so colorful. Love it! I’d hate to say how much time I spent on a card yesterday and it was a very, very simple one in the end. I’m always envious of those who say they put together a card in 10-20 minutes.

LOVE the way the needle & thread work on the DSP… of course the precious pearls just make it all more ‘girly’ and can’t wait play with the fabric brads…. soooooo wish I didn’t have to wait for SAB…… it’ll killing me. lol

It doesn’t make any difference if you spend one hour or all day, your cards turn out beautifully. Everything on this card works so well with each other. Great card.
Ann, I will share a little secret with you. The reason some of us whip out a quick card, is because we don’t have the time to do other wise. I admire your blender pen techniques so much, but simply don’t have the time to do that sort of thing very often. Here’s hoping.
