One of my goals this year is to make more masculine cards. And what better way to start the new year than making a card using the Plane & Simple set from the Occasions Mini! This card will be winging its way to a very good friend of mine who celebrated a birthday a few weeks ago. As they say, “Better late than never”!
The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips:
- Vintage is in, and nothing says “vintage” better than distressing! The Seven-Sided Tool from the Cutter Kit was used to distress the edges of the image mat and the More Mustard textured layer. A few spritzes from the Color Spritzer Tool (I used a Soft Suede Stampin’ Write Marker) and darkening of the edges with a Sponge Dauber and Early Espresso ink complete the look. Need a pictorial review of how to use the Color Spritzer Tool? Click HERE!
- Masculine doesn’t mean boring! An Antique Brad in the center of the Compass image, small Button Brads and a Safety Pin from the Vintage Trinkets collection add visual interest and texture.
- Bows for the beau? Perfectly acceptable, especially when made from Hemp Twine!
- Woodgrain! More Mustard card stock was passed through the Big Shot with the Distressed Plate from the Texturz Plates Collection #4. Early Espresso ink was then brayered over the surface for a totally masculine look.
Don’t forget that I will be selecting the winner of the FREE Basic Rhinestones from the comments that are left on this post and yesterday’s PPA Peek. You have until 10:00 PM CST to leave your comment on either one or both posts. The winner will be announced on Thursday. I do enjoy your comments, so won’t you let me know what you think about my first masculine card of 2011? And never forget that if you ever have a question about the cards that I create or the techniques that I use, I am only an email away. Until next time…

You are the master of vintage chic! As I’m siting here catching up on what I missed while I was on vacation, each post gets more ooohhs and aaahhh’s from me. This is gorgeous! Absolutely perfect masculine card…the set is now added to my wish list. *sigh* 🙂
Plain and simple! I love it! The compass is brilliant. I would guess this is a wood background if I didn’t know…Just the best!
What a stunning masculine card! Love everything about this! XOXO
I love your card and I totally agree with you that we need more masculine cards. You’re off to a great start. Thank you for sharing.
Ann, I love every thing about your card. I love the way that you made your card look vintage and masculine, I love that you made it monochromatic, the distressing is fantastic and I love all of the other little details that you added to it. I love you card! Thanks for leaving me a comment on my blog.
I’m number 310 @ SC
This is a great masculine card. It is always pretty easy to make a card for a female, but those masculine cards are sometimes a real stretch. You did a great job on this one.
Wow! That is an awesome card! How long does it take for you to make a card normally? Do you always only make one or do you do some assembly line work as well? Thanks for all the inspiration and for the opportunity for yummy blog candy!
I was considering this set because my partner is nuts for aviation but wasn’t quite sold on it. NOW I’m sold!

Wow this card really soars above all the rest 🙂 It is fabulous – perfectly vintage and timeless. Love the trinnkets!
This card is amazing! I love it! I am going to have to study it more later – it is so wonderful! I want to see all the details and check out that background! Love the comment about “winging it’s way” in the mail.
What is that comment from Mary Fish about top 50 – does it include you? I think I read a comment about Mary getting an award – you too? Didn’t mean to burst your bubble if it didn’t include you. Maybe I shouldn’t have said anything.
Oops, a crash in the kitchen – I think Henry must want his supper.

Oh wow, cool male card. Love it.
Thought the card of the day was GREAT! Really liked the wainscoting-like background
Yay, I’m so glad you’re going to be some masculine cards as well this year. Those always seem to be the hardest for me to figure out. 🙂
I love the distressing on the card. I haven’t tried this and it looks great!

Terrific card. This stamp set is on my long list of wants, no needs. It is perfect for masculine cards. And you are the queen of “distress”.
great masculine card. i think you nailed it!
Love the wood background you created and the hemp twine is a perfect embellishment for a masculine card.
After seeing this card, I think I really need to get a brayer. It really makes the background. Great masculine card!
Another work of art, Ann! Some guy is going to be a pretty lucky fella! Love all the shading. Wish I could do that!
Very cool card, Anne! Cards for the guys are always harder for me.
It is always good to come across masculine cards. They are so difficult to design on my own! Thanks for sharing. jmniffer

Love this card Ann! It’s always so hard to make a “guy” card look good but you’ve done it with this one, for sure!
I haven’t bought the Color Spritzer tool yet ~ too intimidating ~ but I like the way it adds dimension to the background. Maybe I’ll have to give it a try. That’s what I love about your blog ~ you inspire me to try new and/or different things ~ always the teacher, Ann!
Hugs, Barbara in SC
Masculine cards are hard to do, but this is one of the nicest handmade ones I’ve seen, Ann!
Totally love the idea of more masculine cards this year. It’s something that I also struggle with. Thanks for the inspiration. Many Blessings-Tana 🙂

Ann I was on the fence about this set but not any more. This so such cool card. I LOVE the background panel and the distressing goes without saying. Such a perfect fit to stamps. Wow!
Leslie said … Touche` on the masculine card! I make so few masculine cards that is hard to get into that mode of thinking and inspiration. Your card has definitely done that for me. I have been especially anxious to see this stamp set in use. Handsomely amazining!
I fell for this stamp set right off the bat and it looks like man cards are a challenge for all of us. Thanks for coming up with such a great design. I like that you used the little pin (I’ve struggled to find a place to use them). My daughter is a graphic designer and did a mini book that looks a lot like this stamp set.
Love this! A masculine card that actually looks masculine!
Oh it was worth the wait! I love it. Great colors and textures.
Oh perfect timing with this card. My brothers B-day is in Feb. He makes planes and competes in flying them with club members. I saw this set and had to get it so I can make him a card with the plane! Woohoo!! Now I have an idea on how I might want to make his card.
Thanks
Yvonne
