Peace for The Paper Players and Puppy Tales

It is time for another fabulous Paper Players challenge! With Christmas right around the corner, what could be more fitting than a Christmas Challenge? Simply make and share a Christmas card or project…the sky is the limit! Since I still needs cards to send to family and friends, I opted to make another card with my all-time favorite designer paper, Deck the Halls. I know that you are probably getting tired of it, but with this patchwork design, you could easily substitute another paper or cardstock. I am thinking that this could look very rich with Cherry Cobbler card stock! Yummy!

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips:

  • Patchwork! To create the patchwork pattern, I adhered and angled Deck the Halls Curly Label Punches to cover a 4-3/4″ x 4-3/4″ Brushed Gold square. (The distressed look was accomplished with a Sponge Dauber and Early Espresso ink.) Any designer paper that extended over the edge of the Brushed Gold card stock was simply cut off. How easy is that?
  • The “Vintage” touch! The “Seven-Sided Tool” from the Cutter Kit quickly and easily ruffles an edge, while the Round File from the Distressing Essentials Kit can easily be used to curl up a corner!
  • Age spots! Speckles are quickly added with the Color Spritzer Tool and Soft Suede Stampin’ Write Marker. Watermarks are courtesy of the French Foliage set. Ink up the image with Soft Suede and stamp off, before stamping onto the sentiment.
  • Glitz and Glam! Basic Pearls adorn the patchwork where four labels meet, while Basic Rhinestones double as holly berries. A little Silver Tinsel and an Antique Brad add a bit of pizzazz, while snippets of Victoria Crochet Trim and Cherry Cobbler Seam Binding complete the look.
I will say that I was a little hesitant about the Silver Tinsel. However, my husband said that he preferred the card with it. I appreciated his input, so I added it. I think I have to agree…I like the wee bit of sparkle it adds to this dark card.

Puppy Tales

Do these angelic faces look like the faces of canine felons? Looks can be deceiving. Muffy Lin (yes…I am using her middle name) got into Mom’s Sponge Daubers and proceeded to distress the dining room rug. It seems as if she was in cahoots with brother Brody, who insisted that he absolutely had to go outside. I was in such a hurry, so proud of the fact that Brody was actually asking to go out, that I forgot to secure the dining room table by moving everything into the center. (I do all of my stamping at our kitchen/dining room table, and it was covered with all sorts of goodies.) And remember the beautiful skater card from Thursday? Don’t even ask…but I will make another.

The Twins are teething, which causes their ears to do “wonky” things, which is not good for the show ring. So Mom and Dad had to “post” them so they would stand up straight like the Boxers that you see on television. In fact, if you watched the National Dog Show on Thanksgiving Day, a beautiful Boxer won the Working Dog Group and was a contender for Best in Show.

Coming Up this Week:

  • Blog Award from Nikki, with 8 facts about me, and fabulous picture from Stephanie
  • Occasions Mini Sneak Peeks! My preorder has arrived, and I can’t wait to create and share with you. (If you need a mini, be sure to email me so I can get you on my list.)
  • Pals Paper Arts Sneak Peek on Wednesday with a chance to win Glimmer Brads
  • Pals Paper Arts Full Reveal on Thursday (You still have time to join us in the Regal Rose, Pear Pizzazz Color challenge.)

As always, your comments are very important to me, so please, will you let me know what you think about today’s card? And remember, if you have any questions about the cards that I create or the techniques that I use, I am only an email away! Until next time…

  1. I love that patchwork!!! A beautiful card! I had to laugh at your story… I swear mine get my attention so the others can destroy!!! They sure amaze me at times. Hugs,

  2. Hey Anne,

Maybe I totally missed the post about this but did you decided to crop Muffy’s ears also? I remember you saying that Brody came with his ears cropped but I don’t remember reading about you cropping Muffy’s.

Oh and by the way they both look adorable all cuddled up. ๐Ÿ™‚ Minus the chewing on everything and potty training I miss when my boys were puppies.

    Have a fantastic day!
    Sabriena

Ps – I love your card also!

  3. Oh bless… this has just bought a smile to my face so early this morning.

They look so angelic too. But it must have been the weekend for it, as Truly has taken a liking to Cherry Cobbler and my set of Thank you cards.. but like you, I will make some more.

The card is beautiful too.. loving the tinsel!

  4. You are becoming Queen of Vintage Cards. I love the different textures and of course Deck the Halls is one of my favorites.

Angels has alittle devil in them and the ear posts look like horns. Was that on purpose? I work at my Kitchen table too, seems I do everything there lately.

  5. Another Schach stunner! This one looks like a warm and cozy Christmas quilt. Beautfiul touches, Ann. I love the details like the FF waterspots and you know I love the tinsel! No, not the skater card! ๐Ÿ™

  6. Wow, what a stunning card…I was wondering how you got that effect…TFS! And your little angelic pups…hard to believe they could so misbehave! LOL!

  7. Love your card….always look forward to seeing what you create!!!!!!
You do some amazing art work.

  8. Love the patchwork! And the added detail of sponging every edge of each curly label is perfect. Your vintage style inspires me everytime! Just love it!

  9. No, I’m not getting tired of seeing you use the beautiful Deck the Halls DSP. Hubby was right, the tinsel looks very pretty on the card.

They sure are cute felons! Though, I feel for your carpeting ๐Ÿ™

I used my new stamp set ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ll post tomorrow after I take a picture. Thank you again!

  10. This card is stunning! I absolutly LOVE the BG you created with your punch and the DSP! The pearls are a nice touch too! Such a beautiful vintage looking card. ๐Ÿ™‚

I litterally laughed outloud when I read Muffy daubered your carpet! Sorry I laughed at your expense but it was just tooo funny! I could hear the sarcasm dripping when I read that! LOL Ah…the woes of a boxer puppy x2 owner. I bet you can’t wait until they are all trained. But looking at that adorable pic, Im sure you don’t mind all that much.

  11. Ann, your card is gorgeous! I love the the silver that you added. It’s always nice when our husband gives us his input into our cards. ๐Ÿ™‚ I have to tell you that this card and the skater card blew me away! They are both so beautiful and I’m sorry that one of the twins decided that you did not need it any more. The patchwork that you did on your card is incredible. I have never made one before and I do not think that I have the talent or the patience to make one. I wish that I did though.

Sorry to read about your carpet too. My goodness Muffy and Brody are keeping you very busy. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Mary

  12. Another gorgeous vintage Christmas card with special touches! Patti and Linda are too funny today with their comments … love it!

I’ve always said it is a good thing God gave puppies such cute faces. The Twins cute faces are what get you through each puppy adventure and keep us all smiling when reading about them.

    Have a great day!

  13. Ann, I have a new word that I’m going to use for your gorgeous creations…they are “Schach-Tastic”! Haha! ๐Ÿ™‚ The patchwork background is fabulous and the addition of the tinsel is stunning. As always, your details are amazing!

Those twins are trouble-makers, eh? You couldn’t tell from their sweet little faces, though. THe daubing of the dining room rug was bad but the skater card?? Ugh, I gasped when I read that. ๐Ÿ™ They are double trouble lately!

  14. OMG Patti’s comment just made me laugh out loud – always entertaining here at the Stamp Schach! Those faces are so angelic – hard to believe they can be naughty! Your patchwork card is gorgeous but maybe you need to add another spritz to it – like that Bitter Apple dog repellent stuff ๐Ÿ™‚

  15. Age spots and glitz and glam? Sounds like ME when I decorate MYSELF!! LOL. Puppy tales are the best–they bring smiles for years. Thanks for sharing, Ann!

  16. but where’s Josie? I even have my boyfriend in love with Josie. We see a really cute dog somewhere and we say, but is she cuter than Josie??? Hahahah

  17. This is just stunning, Ann! So many details. I love the pearls and the tinsel. Muffy and Brody are just adorable. Their sweet little faces look so angelic when they are sleeping. At first I thought you were crazy getting two, but one glimpse at Brody’s smoochy nose, and I know why you could not resist him! ~Bonnie~

  18. For those who may be wondering, the holly in the lower right hand corner is simply a stamp from A Peaceful Season inked in Always Artichoke and stamped onto Naturals Ivory. It was then snipped out. There is no glitter…it is just the way the stamp looks! ๐Ÿ™‚

  19. Oh, Ann…this is incredible!!!

  20. Very cool card Ann! I love what you did with the curly label punch and couldn’t wait to read your post this morning about how you achieved the background of your card! The tinsel is the perfect touch!! Wish I had some of it, it is pretty! Your puppy tales are always hilarious! But I actually gasped about your beautiful skater card!! You poor woman! LOL!!! I am sure Brody couldn’t help himself, it did look good enough to eat!
    Have a good day!
    Lesley

  21. I am always amazed what all you can pack on to a card! This is sooo interesting – I love it! All your cards are such great eye candy. Question: If you put them on a shelf with real candy – what would get noticed first? Card or real candy? Not sure where I pulled that out of! I am with Mitzi – what is that in the corner and how was it achieved? I like the idea of showing us the most looks you can achieve with the DP, a stamp, or punch.

Ah yes, the pups! What can we say, pups will be pups! I would have done the same.

Mike surprised me with a tree from a tree farm. Henry just sort of eyed it so far but it has not been decorated yet – that will be when he decides to explore!

  22. This looks so cool, a really different look, I love it! I like the tinsel added too. Are you sure it was THOSE little babies? They look so sweet, lol!

  23. Ann, what an interesting quilted technique! I had to look more closely at my screen to see what you had done. I’m going to try that; thank you for passing along that idea! And I believe your husband is right. THe tinsel added just the right touch. ๐Ÿ™‚

  24. This is so beautiful, love the patch work with the punched design and the paper is so beautiful, I hate to see the season pass, I just love it.

The dogs are too funny! I am sorry to hear about your skater card, but they will learn not to mess with mom’s toys! lol.

  25. Your friends and family sure are lucky. I hope they frame the cards you send them; they are pieces of art for sure. I love this one. When I put punches on a card, it looks like…well, punches on a card. You somehow managed to make your background look like one amazing paper with lots of interest and dimension, but definitely NOT punches on a page. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m not even going to think about one of your beautiful cards being eat by a puppy. Too traumatic. You can show cats too; they will only eat the ribbon. ๐Ÿ™‚

  26. PS… For the leaf in the bottom right corner, did you cut out a piece of the DP? Did you cover it with glitter? You didn’t mention this in your tut and I am curious. Thanks.

  27. I can’t get too much of the Deck the Halls DP, so don’t let up! So sorry to hear about the destruction your babies created! Even so, I know you still love them. ๐Ÿ™‚ Great card! The patchwork design is different and the punch you used works well. Thanks for sharing such a usable idea.

  28. This card is stunning and your creativity of using a punch to create a fabulous background…love it!

  29. Not those angelic twins?!…LOL As the mommy of a boxer myself….only I really know how ‘angelic’ they really can be. When Betsy was teething as a pup, our TV remote paid the price! That does have to be one of the cutest photos I’ve ever seen though. As for the card…OMGoodness. It’s awesome. I may have to sit down and try this one out. I love the patchwork look. Thanks for sharing with us Ann…you rock!

  30. Have you seen the movie Best in Show? Hilarious and one of my favorites. Which character best describes the twins and you in the ring? Your card is simply incredible. Love what you did with the top note. You always manage to pull a masterpiece together. How long does it take you?

I’m so sad about the card with the skaters . . . one of the most beautiful cards I have ever seen (even Maxine-my SAM mentioned it as being amazing). Glad you can reproduce it.

    Hugs, M

  31. You really are a paper artist! What a creative idea to do patchwork. Love it. Oh those rascally pups. You need eyes in the back of your head. I saw the dog show and was rooting for the boxer. I kept thinking that maybe one day we might see Brody or Muffy out there strutting their stuff. Have a great day.

  32. Lovely card..and I like the tinsel too! Deck the Halls is my favorite seasonal paper. My favorite card stock is none other then Cherry Cobbler. So this card gets my vote!
Oh I can’t believe they got the Skater Card! They were determined weren’t they.
How is the rug? Did it come clean?
They look so sweet in the picture. Are you sure they could do anything wrong? hee
Santa Paws knows when they are naughty or nice. So they better be good for goodness sskes!
    Yvonne

  33. Gorgeous, as usual! Deck the Halls is one of my all-time favorites as well.
