Angelic Joy for The Paper Players

It’s time for another Paper Player’s challenge! This week The Players are challenging you to pull out the heat gun and embossing powder…it’s an embossing challenge!

I inked up the “Angel” from Angelic Joy and two wheels, Elegance and Music Notes, with VersaMark for this card. Heat embossing was accomplished with Gold and Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powders. I used several of my favorite products, such as Deck the Halls Designer Series Paper, Silver Tinsel, Basic Pearls, and Antique Brads. Plus, I also used the Faux Burning technique. I hope you enjoy this card as much as I enjoyed making it!

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips:
  • Emboss and watercolor! Watercoloring is a breeze once your image has been embossed. The Angel image was stamped in VersaMark and embossed with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder. Then she was watercolored using the Blender Pen and ink method. (See my tutorial HERE.) So Saffron was used for the hair, Blush Blossom for the skin, Always Artichoke for the gown, and Rich Razzleberry for the cloak.
  • Tag…you’re it! The Two Tags Bigz Die was used to create the background panel for the Angel. I inked the Music Notes Stampin’ Around Wheel with VersaMark and embossed with Gold. I used a VersaMarker to outline the scalloped border of the tag, and once again embossed with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder.
  • Star gazing! It is hard to take your eyes off of the silver embossed star. This time, the Elegance Stampin’ Around Wheel was inked with VersaMark and rolled over a Brushed Gold Star. Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder was used for contrast. An Antique Brad adds interest.
  • Faux burning! The right edge of the “Diamond” patterned Deck the Halls Designer Series Paper was prepared using the Faux Burning technique. (See my tutorial HERE.) Silver Tinsel was then adhered along the burned edge for another vintage touch.
  • Joy comes in small packages! The “Joyful” Sizzlits Die was zipped through the Big Shot with Cherry Cobbler card stock. It was adhered to the card using Dotto adhesive. I selected Dotto for its repositionable quality.
  • The finishing touches! Basic Pearls adorn the halo. Cherry Cobbler Seam Binding was added for balance. And as a final detail, the edges of the Cherry Cobbler mat were edged with VersaMark and embossed with Gold.
I hope that you will join in the fun this week! And if you have never heat embossed before, it is easy. Just stamp in VersaMark, sprinkle with embossing powder, shake off the excess, and heat with the heat gun! It’s so fun to watch the powder melt.
Today is one of those sad Sundays. Brady the Boy heads back to college, and the Twins and I will miss him terribly. Muffy has already gotten into the habit of racing up the stairs after her early morning potty break, and scratching on his bedroom door. Of course, he lets her in and they snuggle in his bed for a few more hours of sleep. I dread tomorrow morning when she looks for him and he is not there. I remember vividly how heartbroken Missy the Boxer was when Brady the Boy first left for college. I just wished that there was some way to make Muffy and Brody understand that he will be back in a few weeks.
Thanksgiving break is traditionally when we decorate for the holiday season, and at the Schach house we go all out. However, this will be the “Year Without a Christmas Tree”. We discussed it as a family, and decided that it would just be safer. I am sure that with two bouncing baby Boxers, the tree would undoubtedly end up being knocked over. I don’t want to spend the entire holiday season policing the tree and having to use the Twin’s new middle names. Nor will we have the candles in the windows or the garland on the banister. But there will be a few things that I can display…as long as they are far from the edges of the tables and Brody’s inquisitive nose! By not decorating, I will have more time for candy making, baking and stamping. And most importantly, we will still have the joy of sharing the season with family and friends…
I am anxious to hear what you think about today’s card. And as always, if you ever have any questions about the cards that I create, or the techniques that I use, don’t hesitate to email me. As I always told my students, the only silly questions are the ones that don’t get asked! Until next time…

  7. Your card is outstanding. You always manage to outdo yourself. Those pesky little pups keeping you from a tree this year!! What’s one tree when you have those two who will just add so much to your Christmas. There’s always next year.

  8. Ann how beautiful!!! I too love how you backed the angel with that tag. Your details are beautiful. Give the twins a hug from me. Hugs,

  9. Oh this is so pretty. I think of my grandmother when I see it. not sure why, but I do.
I too am not going to put up my big tree, but that’s because the grandkids won’t be around this year. I’m going to miss that so much, but with the third little they could not make the trip this year. So I’m going to settle for the little 18″ table version… will glad about the work afterwards I’m thinking… hmmmm.

  10. Ann – another amazing card. I love how you used the tag for the background of the angel. It really grounds her. The tinsel looks fabulous. Gorgeous!
With you on the tree…. gave up on those with the cats 🙂
    Hugs

  13. Ann, I don’t know how you do it but just when I think you have done it all…here you come again with this stunning creation! WOW!! So many amazing elements to your card, I don’t even know where to start. In one word: FABULOUS!! 🙂

I can’t even imagine the twins with a Christmas tree. Although it would make for some funny blog posts, I’m glad you decided to keep your “holiday sanity”, in lieu of a the decorating. We are skipping the major decorating this year, as well. We will be spending the holiday away from home with family, so we thought we would save the work.

  14. OMG, so many lovely details that make this jaw-dropping card! I love, love the pearls in her heavenly crown, the use of the two tags die and the tinsel trim. Just gorgeous, Ann!

  15. The detail in this creation is just stunning. You certainly have a talent. Beautiful.

  16. Beautiful card! So rich and elegant. TFS!

  17. **THUD** (That’s my jaw hitting the floor!) You are so amazing! Oh my, I wish I could put your talent in jars and sell it — I’d be a billionaire. XOXO

  18. This is stunning! I love all the little details, all the layers and texture, fantastic card.

No tree, so sad. Maybe you could put up a small one on a table or heck if you had a playpen you could put it in there, lol! But I do agree, with the babies, you need to be safe.

  19. Your card is absolutely a work of art. You always impress me but this card is awesome!
I wish I had the insight a few years back to skip the tree. Twice, the tree came down within the same week. I lost many beautiful ornaments that I had put near the top away from the inquisitive nose, but they had farther to fall when the tree did fall.
Perhaps when they go looking for Brady, they find an early Christmas gift tucked someplace by his bed?
THanks for your continued creativity and the sharing of your tutorials.

  20. I don’t know, I don’t know, I don’t know how you continually do it Ann where I can not tell where the supplies are from…yet I know they are ALL SU! Which is THE BEST!

  21. This is just stunning, Ann. I love the tinsel and the robes of the angel. Once again, you have created a card masterpiece. ~Bonnie~

  22. This card is “over the top!” So many details make it exquisite! You did a fabulous job!

  23. WOW! What a wonderful card!!!! You took care with every detail over the entire card. Way to go! I love to see your wonderful cards but just had to comment on this over-the-top beautiful Christmas specimen! Don’t you just love it when you have created a work of art!!!
    Hugs from Colorado, Judy 🙂

  24. Again a beautiful card Ann. You are a very talented lady and so willing to share your work and techniques. Thank you!

  25. Beautiful card! Great design with the tinsel & JOY.

Definitely safer not having a tree this year. Plus, who would argue having more baking & stamping time?!?!?

  26. Wow, what detail! When I read the explanations, I had totally missed the JOY etc. So, I had to read, scroll up to the card, and back down with each explanation. Amazing! How do you keep coming up with all these?

Yes, “little” Muffy will be upset when her brother is not there. Maybe a fun activity for her would take her mind off of it? Not sure what that would be though.

We will be treeless this year too. I do have a feather tree I will put on a table and put something around it so a certain basset can’t get to it. Being a counter surfer – with his long body he can stand on his short legs and reach incredible places!

  27. This is absolutely incredible, Ann! I LOVE it!

  28. Wow, this is so beautiful, love all the details and the design.

  29. Wow! Wow! Wow! That’s all I can say. You left me speechless!

  30. WOW Ann…this card is stunning! I lov how it looks embossed in the gold…and that star is breathtaking! Love the tinsel too…You out did yourself on this one! 😉

As for Christmas trees being knocked over…you should take out my last blog post…that just happend to me! LOL I agree though…I’m sure your tree would be down more than up. Maybe you could get a small table top one? Now that my Mom has no kids at home that’s what they do…it’s a little 2 or 3 footer that they set up on a table and decorate.

    Enjoy your Sunday! 🙂

  33. This card is absolutley gorgeous!!!
I think it might be one of my favorite cards you made…And believe me I have lots of favorites…lol
I can’t believe you won’t have a Christmas tree up this year… so sad. But I do understand.. we have a few little kitties this year and it has been a real challenge trying to keep them away from the tree and all the babbles…lol I found a spray bottle works wonders.. it only took a few days and now they don’t bother with it at all… But in you case I think you would probally have to use one of those super soakers..lol
Thanks for sharing your wonderful card and stories… it is a great way to start my day…
    hugs
    Darlene-Joy
