It’s Sunday and time to reveal my Paper Players inspiration card. This week we are hosting a color challenge highlighting the beautiful, rich colors of fall: Old Olive, More Mustard, Cajun Craze and Early Espresso. If you do not have these colors, feel free to substitute with colors of similar hue. What is important is that you join us and have fun! I can’t wait to see what you create!
The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips:
- Coordination is key! When working with multiple patterns, look for colors and textures that coordinate. Stampin’ Up!’s Autumn Spice Specialty Designer Series Paper is a perfect example with its fall designs and colors!
- Stamp on pattern paper for a delightful change! Here the sentiment from Day of Gratitude is stamped directly onto a piece of More Mustard paper from the Autumn Spice Collection.
- Layer upon layers for dimension! The sentiment is punched using the Decorative Label Punch, and then layered upon Cajun Craze and Early Espresso. Leaves are layered upon leaves! Ribbon is layered upon ribbon! Each layer adds depth and visual interest.
- Distress and spritz! The Color Spritzer Tool and Early Espresso Stampin’ Write Marker instantly ages and warms the design, as does the sponging around the edges of the layers and leaves.
- Crazy about Cajun Craze? Create Cajun Craze grosgrain ribbon by tinting Very Vanilla ribbon with Cajun Craze Ink and a Sponge Dauber…or a Cajun Craze Stampin’ Write Marker.
- A touch of the unexpected! Instead of buttons and twine, try Basic Pearls!
The leaves used on this card were watercolored using Blender Pens and ink. I have been asked many times how I create my watercolored images. I hope that this tutorial helps. I will apologize for the fact that it is in two parts. You will learn why as you watch. And don’t expect any fancy bells and whistles…I haven’t learned how to edit yet! So enjoy these tutorials in all of their unedited glory!
Remember, if you ever have any questions about the cards that I create or the techniques that I use, I am only an email away! And please, won’t you leave me a comment before you go? Until next time…

Thanks Ann for a great tutorial. I have not have much success with blender pens to date – always seem to end up with bits of the cardstock rubbing off. I am now going to take your advice and try again – first with watercolour paper to perfect the technique.
Just found your blog and have found my FAVORITE Card of ALL on your site.
I love leaves and fall colors. This card is beyond stunning.
Ann, thanks for you comment and prayers on my blog.
Sigh…this card leaves me speechless! I have a ways to go before I achieve this level of artistry but I live in hope that with your wonderful tips I might yet achieve the goal! Now where did I leave that Blender pen???? Time to practice.
Thanks for sharing Ann – you are an inspiration!
I finally got around to being able to watch this tutorial. Thank you so much! I seldom use my blender pens because I figure I’d screw it up and there’s nothing worse than showing someone how to use something when you’re not so sure yourself, LOL! So, this was particularly helpful to me. Great video! Thanks again!

How wonderful to hear your voice! This is one set that I’ve snubbed in the past, but I think I may just have to purchase it now after seeing your beautiful card. Colouring is really lovely – can I just borrow you for a wee while when I get me stamps??

Your card is beautiful; the leaves look like you went outside in the yard and picked them up to use on your card. Thanks for the tutorial too. Waiting for my spritzer tool; you made it look so easy to use.
Woohoo! I have been “Schachized” Thanks Ann for sharing your water coloring skills. The card is gorgeous and the video is sooo helpful.
Gorgeous Ann! I have not used the blender pens before – only the aqua pens which I like to use. Gotta try your method. The leaves are so realistic. Thanks so much for sharing your talent!

OMGosh! This is stunning! A gorgeous card and tutorials, too! I’m so excited to watch them, but they’ll have to wait until after church! Thank you for these because the watercoloring is something I tend to avoid.

Stunning! I really like how you used the pearls. You must have been a delight in the classroom because I loved your videos. Your warmth and humor shines, even if they are unedited. I can’t wait for the next one! ~Bonnie~
What a gorgeous card and I loved seeing how you work your magic! I might just try it!
This card is amazing and I love the “unedited” video!! Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words!! This card must have taken quite a bit of your time with all the cutting and layers. Thanks for sharing it!
All I can say is AMAZING!! I can’t wait to try this.
GORGEOUS!!
Your card is so beautiful!!! I love those layers. Your leaves have always been my fav… thanks for the video, I’ve never liked blender pens, so now I will give it a whirl. Your video was terrific, by the way. *smile* Hugs, Oh I’m now ordering the spritzer tool, like I’m gonna use it. But, just in case. lol
Oh wow…this card is amazing!
Thanks for the tutorial on the leaves. Just beautiful! I *never* use my blender pens. It’s not one of my favorite methods of watercoloring. I just don’t think I do well with them. I’m going to have to break them out and try them again. Thanks Tana Conley http://tanaconley.blogspot.com
Wowzier! Just stunning!! Thank you for the tutorial and tips!
Ann, fabulous card. the leaf wreath is just amazing. Congratulations on your first video! I love the fact that you showed how easy it is to watercolor. Your finished card is a perfect example of why it is worth spending a little time to do the watercoloring!
I loved your hints, tips and injection of humor on your video. Well, done!
Hugs
