Same Card…Two Looks for Always Playing with Paper

I am thrilled to be revealing this week’s card, or cards if you please, for the Paper Players Challenge. This week we are hosting a yummy color challenge combining Early Espresso, Cherry Cobbler, Crumb Cake, and Very Vanilla. If you do not have these colors, don’t despair! Just substitute with something similar. For my card, I inked up the three “Chair” images from Stampin’ Up!’s Have a Seat stamp set. Because of the almost austere lines of this set, I decided to keep my card simple in terms of embellishments. However, I could not resist trying it out with a big bow, too! Isn’t it amazing how different it looks? I hope that you enjoy this little slice of Cherry Vanilla Crumb Cake with an Espresso!

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips:

  • Be a Big Shot hero! Early Espresso was zipped through the Big Shot with the Vintage Wallpaper Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, while Very Vanilla was paired with the Perfect Polka Dots folder. A small piece of Early Espresso was punched with the Modern Label punch, then embossed using the Square Lattice folder.
  • Layer your labels! The “i miss you” sentiment from Three Little Words was inked with Early Espresso and stamped onto Crumb Cake card stock. After punching it out with the 1-3/8″ x 5/8″ Oval Punch, it was layered onto a 1″ Cherry Cobbler Circle which had been adhered to the Early Espresso Designer Label that had been previously texturized. But as you can see in Picture Two, this card looks perfectly fine sans sentiment.
  • Plain and simple! A snippet of Hemp Twine tied around 1-1/4″ Early Espresso Striped Grosgrain Ribbon is the perfect ribbon treatment for a simple look. Or if you like, dress it up with a voluptuous bow, as shown below!
  • Age instantly! The Color Spritzer Tool, paired with an Early Espresso Stampin’ Write Marker adds the perfect amount of speckling to the image mat, while the edges are gently distressed using a Sponge Dauber and Early Espresso ink.

So what do you think? Big Bow or Hemp Twine? Let me know in your comment! Isn’t it fun to see the difference! And if you have any questions about any of the techniques that I have used on this card, don’t hesitate to ask. I really do look forward to your emails.

I still have a few open dates in which to take advantage of Stampin’ Up!’s Hostess Promotion. Earn an extra $25 of free product for a qualifying workshop of $350 (before taxes and shipping)! Want to host a catalog party? That’s fine, too! Just email me for details! Until next time…

  1. I have to go with the hemp. Lets the chairs be the focus. Following you from SC

  2. Both fantastic Ann!! BUT I think the bow is just so fun! 🙂

  3. I love the big bow itself, but for this card I like the hemp better. 🙂 Thanks for sharing your beautiful cards!

  4. Big Bow all the way!!! Both are awesome. I love the way you used the chairs with the sentiment. Love the color combo too! Hugs,

  5. Ann, you are going to convince me to get that spritzer tool, yet! Fabulous cards. I didn’t think anyone could make the chairs look good – but you sure did. For me.. I love both versions, but the hemp works best for me. It leaves some space for the chairs to be the focal point and yet still adds great interest.
    another amazing card.

  6. I like the hemp twine version best … love how you incorporated both ribbons on the first card.

  7. OOOh, I love this card and how I wish that I had ordered this set! Both are great, Ann, but I agree, I like the hemp best.

  8. Love both cards, but prefer the hemp bow (mostly for mailing). I struggle with the large ribbon, but it’s a snap for you I see, with a perfectly tied bow. I love how you used it here coupled with the hemp and I will definitely use this tip.

  9. Love them both, but I’m partial to twine!
I’m following you from SC. I hope you’ll join me too!

  10. Lovely, Ann, and I adore the big fat bow!!

  11. I like them both but I prefer to hemp one. I like clean and simple and the big bow takes away from that. Love your work…always gorgeous.

  12. This is so cute. The sentiment – perfect – for the empty chairs.

  13. Hats off to the Color Spritzer! Thanks for inspiring me to get one. Your cards (both versions) are fantastic!! Hugs, M

  14. Ann, I love both of the cards that you made. I love bows so that one really caught my eye. It’s amazing how just changing things around a bit can change a card.

  15. The hemp is my choice. It is just enough embellishment to let the chairs be the focal point.

  16. I totally agree with Cindy’s comments! She said everything I wanted to say! I wonder what else you could do with the chairs.

  17. Great cards – but I would have to pick the hemp twine version. The bow is gorgeous but to me takes away from the fabulous stamping – either way it’s gorgeous, though!

  18. Oh, I love both cards! However, the huge bow is just gorgeous! This set is going on my list for sure after seeing these cards! ~Bonnie~

  19. NO way I could pick between bow and Hemp Twine! I like them both!

  20. Love them both! I’d probably go with the hemp as well b/c of the chair lines. Both are so pretty!

  21. Both cards are great Ann but I give the nod to the twine. It just seems to have balance with the crumb cake sentiment and then the touch of twine.

  22. Love, love these cards, Ann! These colors are perfect with this set–both have a country vintage feel and I think I like the twine best for the rustic touch. Although that bow is perfection tied! Gorgeous creations, as usual!

  23. Love that twine Ann! But love the bow too…how do you tie them like that? That sentiment with this set is a cool idea…love your card!
    Smiles,
    Lesley 🙂

  24. Hmm, I am a fan of big bows but this time I just love the twine look. I think it matches the fine lines of the chairs as you said. But, both are very lovely cards. Do you make anything not lovely?!? You have amzing talent!

  25. Wow, great cards Ann. Love them both but I think I like the hemp twine/sentiment card a tiny bit better. Maybe I’m thinking of how that big bow would go through the mail…
    Hugs, Barbara in SC

  26. Love them both lots and lots!

  27. Ann they are both beautiful in there own way. I personally like the bow the best. It just adds a little more personality…lol Great job as always..
    hugs

  28. I like it with the hemp. For me the bow feels too big for the simple design. I like the layered label too. I always love reading your posts and getting inspiratin from your creations. You are definitely one of my favorites to follow!

  29. Both cards are so nice…..the bow does make a “statement”!!! Of course I would think they were nice because I used the same set! Great minds think alike! 😀

  30. I like it better with the hemp. That is probably because I am more the CAS style. But I think with the hemp the chair images stand out more. Both are lovely!
