The last day of summer vacation has always been bittersweet. I love returning to school and my students. I love the organization and the daily routine. I have always said that I could have been a “professional student”. Yet the end of summer vacation also means an end to spending time with my family. Brady will be off to Western Illinois University for his sophomore year by week’s end, and Missy the Boxer will be left to guard the house alone. I will miss the time that I have spent with them. Hours of doing whatever we wanted, whenever we wanted will now be replaced with preparing for classes and in my case, grading papers.
I am also saddened as I will no longer have as much time to create my cards and share them. I remember when I first became a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator. I had no desire to maintain a blog or post daily. But with the encouragement of Mary Fish, I entered into “blogland”. Making a card daily and posting have become second nature, as has communicating with you, my readers. Brady, bless his heart, has tried to come up with suggestions as to how to balance stamping and teaching, none of which would meet with the approval of my administrators. As much as I would like, I don’t think I can justify teaching about the chemistry of ink, complete with stamping lab, or how rubber is processed into stamps, also with lab! (Leave it to Brady!)
But, my sadness only lasts for a day. As soon as tomorrow morning rolls around, I will be stepping back into what has been my routine since 1976. And when I meet my students on Thursday, it will be as if I have never stepped foot outside of the classroom. So bear with me for a few days, as notebook paper replaces designer paper and report cards replace card stock!
As always…
I’m thinking you should get them to do a chemistry scrap book instead of a lab book. It would be memorable!
Have a great year.
Have a wonderful school year! You remind me of my mom who was so committed to her students and loved teaching. You have lots of fans and although we will miss your daily posts we will be so fortunate to see those beautiful cards when they do come!
Ann, when I was younger, I was a Home Economics teacher. Sure wish I’d known about rubber stamping when I had my Handicrafts class! Brady is on to something for sure! There would be a lot more rubber stamping fanatics out there if I’d had that opportunity back then. Best of luck this school year.
Have a great school year Ann!
As sad as I am that we (your fans) won’t be seeing as much of your fabulous creations…I am happy for your students who will no doubt benefit greatly from your teaching skills. As a mom of a 14 y/o I VALUE good teachers :-).
Ann,
I will be thinking of you as you return! I do remember those days! Then I had children of my own and now I feel for them as they return to school!
Here in Virginia we don’t return to school until Sept.8………..however we didn’t get out until late June!
I hope you have a GREAT week!Elizabeth
P.S…….Iam so glad I found your blog! Love it!
I’m sad to hear you won’t be stamping as much…I’m sure you will somehow find some time to set aside for some “fun”…I so commend you for your profession…without fabulous teachers where would our children be so thank you for all that you do!
ps…loving the pic of your boxer…we had one, named Sasha, who unfortunatly passed away 2 years ago after blessing us with 11 wonderful years with her.
Have a fabulous school year!

Well, you wouldn’t be an excellent teacher if you had TOO much fun stamping during school time! Best of luck to you, Ann and I hope this school year is the best ever!
Looking forward to your creations as you have time to make them…Best of luck in your new school year!
As hard as it may be to get back into the school routine, I’m sure stamping will be a great stress reliever for you.
It is difficult to work out of the home full time, stamp and blog daily, but it IS possible.
Wishing you well and eagerly awaiting your coming creations.
I’m sure you’re an amazing teacher as well as paper artist. Best of luck back at school. I’m hoping you will still be able to sneak a few cards in. They are soooo beautiful. Hugs, Mary
P.S. Thank you for the shout out . . . I’m not sure if it was a good thing to get you into this crazy blogging thing!!! Although seeing your work (x2) on Nancy Riley’s top picks this week validates your talent in a big way.
I wish you the best with your first day back! You are really special and those kids and the school system there are lucky to have you!
Don’t worry, your creations will be coming, and your routine will adjust. We will be here to check out all your cool things! You have fans!

It sounds like teaching is another passion of yours and it is great that you can fill all of your passions at different times during the year. I will miss reading your post everyday but will still check in daily just in case you found a moment to share something. Wishing you a fabulous first day back to school as well as the weeks to follow.
