Festive Friday Challenge #1: Valentines and/or Sequins

Are you ready for a NEW challenge? One with a few interesting twists?  Then you’ve come to the right place!  Welcome to Festive Friday – where every challenge is a party! We’re looking for crafters to be inspired by, but not limited by, our fun holidays.  That’s why every challenge is an and/or type of challenge. Twice a month, on the second and fourth Fridays, we will be celebrating a different festivity.  Now you may be wondering to yourself, “What if I don’t celebrate that particular day of cheer?”  Well, don’t despair! We have an alternative challenge for you.  Our goal is to get you craftin’ and to get you having fun! For our first challenge, your choice is to create a Valentine’s Day project and/or use Sequins.  We can’t wait to see what you create!

Festive Friday Challenge #1: Valentines and/or Sequins

I selected the Valentine’s Day option, using the Bike Ride stamp set from Stampin’ Up!’s Annual Catalog. I hope you enjoy today’s card!  As for those twists, I’ll explain them at the end of today’s post.

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips

Texture abounds on today’s card! I used the Sweetheart Textured Impressions Embossing Folder for the background.  You’ll notice that I covered the debossed heart in the center with a Whisper White one created with a framelit from the Sweet and Sassy Framelits set. Tip: To keep the cardstock from cracking, you can lightly mist it with water before running it through the Big Shot.  As you can see, I skipped the misting.

Although today’s card is relatively simple to create, with no fancy techniques, there is a lot of stamping and die cutting involved.

In an homage to Valentine’s Day, hearts decorate the wheels and fill the basket. A double bow, created from Powder Pink 3/8″ Shimmer Ribbon completes the look.

Although these soft colors are not ones we would typically associate with Valentine’s Day, I think the result is soft and romantic.  What do you think? Won’t you let me know in your comment today?

The Challenge Twists

As I mentioned earlier, Festive Friday is a challenge with a couple of twists.  First, if you do not want to create a Valentine’s Day project, you could create a project that has sequins on it. At Festive Friday, we know that not everyone celebrates the occasions which we will be featuring, so we are offering alternatives for each challenge.  Secondly, and this twist is really exciting, if you play along with us, you will be earning Fest Points which can be redeemed for items such as tutorials, Stampin’ Up! products, cards, and even a spot as a Guest Designer! For all the rules and Fest Point details – and to meet the other design team members, please visit the Festive Friday Challenge blog!

  3. Ann this is so cute and I LOVE the embossing folder you used here. By covering up the center it appears like the a totally solid bumpy coverage and the that white heart is just another layer. Very cute! Hugs.

  4. Lovely card. Please what is the embossing folder you have not included it with the things you have used.

    • Yikes…It looks like I mentioned it in the written narrative under Design Tips when I talked about misting the paper with water, but left it off the supply list: It’s the Sweetheart Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.

I am so sorry I didn’t list it with supplies.

    • Thanks, Kay! I felt the few cracks added to a “cobblestone” effect! lol I’m glad you like the new blog look. I needed to update the look to something clean and fresh for sure!

  10. So cute, Ann! Love that this could also be used for an anniversary card as well. Great idea to use non traditional sets for holidays.

  12. Love that you took a non traditional stamp set, i.e., bike ride, and turned it into a valentine. I love the hearts on the wheels. So creative.
